WHERE dips the rocky highland
Of Sleuth Wood in the lake,
There lies a leafy island
Where flapping herons wake
The drowsy water rats;
There we've hid our fiery vats,
Full of Berrys
And of reddest stolen cherries.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
Where the wave of moonlight glosses
The dim gray sands with light,
Far off by furthest Rosses
We foot it all the night,
Weaving olden dances
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight;
To and fro we leap
And chase the frothy bubbles,
While the world is full of troubles
And anxious in its sleep.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

This is a song written by the fantastic Natalie Merchant. It was covered by Christy Moore and It`s his version I am doing here. That said, I prefer the original.

Song 1 from my Johhny McEvoy appreciation weekend. This song tells the story of an Irish homeless person in London. So many Irish people went to London back in the day and were never heard from again.

This is a song written by Ewan MacColl, a man who has written so many great songs in his career. This is the "Planxty" Version i am doing here.
THE STAR OF THE COUNTY DOWN
Переглядів 77928 днів тому
"Star of the County Down" is an Irish ballad. The words are by Cathal MacGarvey (1866-1927) from Ramelton, County Donegal. The tune is traditional, the melody was also used in an Irish folk song called "My Love Nell". It has been covered by everyone and anyone over the years. I am doing the late great Jim McCann`s version.
PEACEFUL PROTEST
Переглядів 202Місяць тому
This is a song I wrote: There is a lot of talk about protests at the moment, you hear the government defending the right to peacefully protest, but is it something they believe in or is it just another soundbite? I sometimes wonder when these protests get out of hand, who are the agitators? I saw a picture this week of a "man" in uniform smiling as he pepper sprayed his fellow country man and w...
KITTY
Переглядів 155Місяць тому
"Kitty" is a song that is often mistaken as a Shane MacGowan song. While it`s true he made it famous the story goes, it was his grandmother he first heard sing it, with the assumption that it was a traditional folk song. But since nobody has ever claimed to have heard of it before the album "Red Roses For Me", I suspect either his grandmother came up with it herself or she came from such a smal...
IT`S A LONG LONG WAY FROM CLARE TO HERE
Переглядів 293Місяць тому
Ralph McTell wrote this song in the late ‘60s. McTell is an English folk singer but the song is set against real-life experiences of Irish male migrant labourers on 1960s London building sites. It has been covered by many over the years, this is the Fureys version I am doing here.
THE CLIFFS OF DOONEEN
Переглядів 244Місяць тому
"The Cliffs of Dooneen" is an Irish ballad written by Jack McAuliffe from Lixnaw, County Kerry in the 1930s. It`s about the cliffs around Dooneen Point near Beale, Co.Kerry. It was made famous by Planxty who recorded it in 1972, so it has been around a while. There is something magical in this song, no matter how many times you hear it, (It has been covered by everyone and anyone) it still pull...
WHERE`S MY BOOZE
Переглядів 203Місяць тому
This is a song I wrote: It`s about a man who has lost his family, he lives in a house where the phone has been cut of, the power is gone. He thinks in his altered state caused by his excessive drinking, his family are still here. He wakes up looking for the alcohol he normally hides around the house. He believes one of his family members stole it, not realizing they have long gone, due to this ...
THE GOOD SHIP KANGAROO
Переглядів 4102 місяці тому
"On Board the Kangaroo" also known as "The Good Ship Kangaroo" is generally regarded as an English sea shanty. It was written by Londoner Harry Clifton in about 1864, so tis an old one. The song is sung from the perspective of a mariner who worked on a ship called the Kangaroo, he left his faithful girl behind, turns out she was not that faithful. This song was covered by "Planxty" and it`s the...

Gracias por tu comentario, buena suerte, Padraig.
This is so beautiful, spectacular!
Thank you, I was happy the way it turned out...
Yes! Such a good rendition. Thank you.
Your most welcome, it's a great old song to sing, never get tired of it..
How have I not found this before now? Fantastic!
Thank you so much, it's really starting to get lots of views in the last while. I don't understand how you tube works sometimes. Thanks again, P.
So good!
Thank you so much, its an old one but a good one....
That's fantastic. Is there a valley in Knockanure? I drive past the memorial twice a day to and from work and can't figure out where the valley is. It might be poetic license, or it might refer to civil parishes that existed in the past.
Thank you for your nice comment. From what I can gather there is no valley but don't quote me on that. Gortaglanna where it happened seems to be an area of Knockanure. I have in-laws living in Ballylongford which is not too far away from there and because of that I am familiar with a lot of kerry but I have not been to see the monument yet, I feel I must someday.
Padraig, well done mate. This is a classic for me and well done on putting your own mark on it with a great Irish sound. Nice picking 👌
Thank you so much. It's one of my favourite songs for sure. I sang it recently when my Australian brother in law came to Ireland for a visit. He aproved. All the best wishes, P.
You have a great resonant voice there Padraig. Nice rendition of this fine tune.
Thank you so much, that was a few years ago, maybe it's time to give it another go.
Terrific. Thank you.
Thank you very much, its a great song.
Good singing 👌 👍 ❤
Thank you Abby..
Algorithm brought me here, and a bit late at that. Nice cover dude.
Thank you, I tend to find my best stuff late at night for some reason...sleep now 😆
Perfect ❤
Thank you so much...
Jumped about a lot that ship did. 😏 Well sung Padraig.
It was a cruise I would not want to be a part of, that said, it could have been fun 😂

That's lovely Padraig
Thank you John, uploading the back log at the moment, having a break for the summer...
Lovely singing ❤❤
Thank you Abby
Brilliant
Thank you so much, always nice to get a comment like that...
Padraig, What a beautiful, rendition, understand the song well, spent some special time there
Thank you John for your kind comment. It's a lovely song. Liam Clancy was some singer, he had a special way of presenting a song. If only I could tap into 10% of that, I would be happy.
I love your music.I miss Ireland.
Thank you very much for such a nice comment. Sure maybe someday you will be here again?
such a fine tune, a true songwriter's song....all power to you!!!

kind of shocking !!! a beautiful song, and great addition to the canon of historical tragedy songs ... religious pseudo morality has caused much grief ....well done Padraig
Thank you so much Michael for your lovely comments today. I wrote this one after hearing the terrible story, so many shameful things to write about in this country....
a beautiful tribute song 🕊 your performances are always spectacular ... is there such a song for Julian Assange? ...and so many others
Not that I know off l, but he deserves one...
wow! fantastic song!!! did you create the arrangement? such terrific additions to your great playing!! really amazing🪗🎻🎶🎵🥃🍻👍🏽😎
I would like to say I did, but not on this one. I did a little editing, that's as far as it goes, oh ya I did play guitar...
fantastic version...love the subtle percussion, and as usual awesome vocals!! such a comforting song 🕊🪘🌎😎
Thank you Michael, it was a great concert in Cork, we were right at the very front, only thing, it poured rain all night.
a lovely version...you sound lovely and a great arrangement🕰🕊🎵🙏🏾
Thank you very much!
Great song Padraig, thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much, it was written by John Gibbs who sent it to me. It's a fine song with a great story, P.
Wrote by Bobby Sands , what a song wrote on toilet paper in Hell of the H blocks
Thanks for the comment. Bobby wrote some fine pieces, I often wonder what he would be doing now if he was still with us? I feel something good.
Great job with one of my favorites too, Padraig! I'm pea green that you're going to Cork to see Bruce live! Enjoy!!!
Thank you so much for your nice comment. I have been a fan all my life but only got to see him for the first time last year. It was something else, rainy day promised tomorrow, can't have it every way I suppose....
It sounds exactly like him! I can't tell the difference! 😮🙂
You know Abby, I think you are right 😁
Like this version

Nice
Thank you so much. I'm glad you liked it.

Thank you for your comment, can't beat a glass of mountain dew...
Great tune!
Thank you very much, so glad you liked it.
such a fine tune!! there's a gorgeous intensity to the desperation....but it's got a head of humour 😆 bravo!!! 🍻 cheers!!! 🍺
Thank you so much Michael, there is a touch of desperation in it all right, but as you say I did try to add some humour,. It's the only way to deal with it, oh ya and drink 🤣

FROM-- CO. MAYO. Absolutely powerful lyrics , beautiful voice. Thank you Padrâig. R.I.P. to the beautiful, innocent deceased. 🙏🇮🇪🙏
Thank you so much. You could actually be the first person from my county to comment on my channel. So glad to hear you liked my song, its a terrible story, and the children should be remembered. There are many sad stories in this country of ours.....
A great energetic and rousing rendition Padraig. Superb story telling. Bob
Thank you Bob...
Excellent performance 🎸🎶🎵 New Subscriber added 🎧😎
Thank you very much, so glad you liked it and thanks for the sub...

Thank you so much Michael, tis a great old song to blast out every now and then, happy Easter, P.
Good cover man you have a great voice 👍
Thank you very much. It's not easy covering something Stan Rogers has done, but I try my best...
What an outstanding, powerful song - and tribute to those unfortunate children! Thank you for writing and sharing it. I urge you to publish/record it as it will help preserve memory of those children, as well as of what those nuns did not do in such a terrible crisis.
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment. I'm so glad you liked my song. It's a terrible story, but it's just another shameful chapter in the book of this country. It was easy to write a song about something that makes me so angry. All the best wishes, P.
Excellent, beautiful
Thank you very much, so nice to hear you liked it...
Preach It brother! I'm an American and the situation here Is just as bad! I used to be "Republican" but I finally realized that It doesn't matter what you are those In power will ALWAYS do what's best for them and not us the citizens... However they have managed to divide us greatly. Great song brother. Our "president" Is doing 10x more for Illegals than he does the rest of us. In fact many of our states have banded together to try and put a stop to It since the government and president won't. This entire world with It's government Is pathetic and It saddens me. Much love to you and Ireland from the USA!
Thank you so much for your comment, the most important thing for any government must be their own people, they seem to have lost track of that. Hang in there, P.
